Department: Production
Description: WEIB 106.3 Smooth FM, an independent, eclectic, cutting-edge, community-based radio music station in Northampton, MA, is looking for interns to expand our marketing and production teams. Duties and responsibilities for this for-credit, unpaid position include working independently within a small team.
The ideal candidate has a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and help with special projects on an as needed basis. Candidates should have good writing and editing skills.
This internship is an ideal position for someone looking for hands-on experience in all aspects of radio production. Guidance provided by the professional WEIB staff.
The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
- managing and organizing CD inventory - music cataloging
- creating and maintaining production calendar - distributing information to internal staff - updating files - database entry
- researching new artists
- updating and maintaining pronunciation guide
- creation of e-mail and letter responses - communication with various WEIB constituents Additional duties and responsibilities related to the operations of WEIB may include administrative tasks such as aiding in station events on and off-site, filing, phone reception, etc.
Length of Internship: Spring Semester or Fall Semester
Requirements: WEIB 106.3 Smooth FM is looking for interns with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, organizational skills and dependability with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Prospective candidates must currently be enrolled in an accredited university, college, or trade school with the opportunity to receive school credit for an internship. WEIB 106.3 Smooth FM encourages teamwork and leadership while providing an educational experience for students with a passionate interest in the radio industry. Undergraduate students majoring in english, journalism, mass communications, marketing, or public relations are encouraged to apply. Functional knowledge of Microsoft office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and Internet is a must. Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Strong research skills. A positive attitude and a willingness to learn and cooperate are essential.
